A Cinemateca Portuguesa-Museu do Cinema apresentou hoje na Assembleia Geral do congresso anual da Federação Internacional dos Arquivos de Filmes (FIAF), que decorre este ano em Rabat, a sua candidatura à organização do congresso da federação em 2029. A candidatura foi aprovada pela larga maioria dos delegados presentes.
Quatro décadas depois, a Cinemateca Portuguesa voltará a ser a anfitriã do congresso anual da instituição criada em 1938 com o objetivo de promover a conservação e o conhecimento do património cinematográfico, conjugando os esforços dos mais importantes arquivos do mundo, e que conta atualmente com quase 200 membros e afiliados de 77 países. A Cinemateca é membro da FIAF desde 1956.
O anterior evento em Portugal decorreu em 1989 e teve como tema “Rediscovering the Role of Film Archives: to Preserve and to Show”. Em 2029, o tema centrar-se-á na experiência do espectador na sala de cinema, analisando o contexto histórico dessa ligação e refletindo sobre as circunstâncias presentes para imaginar o seu futuro.
A organização do congresso de 2029 conta com a colaboração da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian e com o apoio institucional do Ministério da Cultura, Juventude e Desporto.
Cinemateca Portuguesa will once again host the FIAF annual congress in 2029
Today, at the General Assembly of the International Federation of Film Archives’ (FIAF) annual congress, which is taking place this year in Rabat, Cinemateca Portuguesa-Museu do Cinema presented its bid to host the 2029 edition of the federation’s congress. The bid was approved by a large majority of the delegates present.
Four decades later, Cinemateca Portuguesa will once again host FIAF’s annual congress, an institution that was founded in 1938 with the aim of promoting the conservation and understanding of film heritage, bringing together the efforts of the world’s most important film archives, and which currently has almost 200 members and affiliates from 77 countries. Cinemateca Portuguesa has been a member of FIAF since 1956.
This previous edition in Portugal took place in 1989 and had as its theme “Rediscovering the Role of Film Archives: to Preserve and to Show”. In 2029, the theme will focus on the past, present and future of the filmgoing experience.
The organisation of the 2029 congress will have the partnership of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and receive institutional support from the Portuguese Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
